November 14th 2024. Good Lord! It’s like the season that keeps on giving. Is hurricane season over yet? I open up the GFS computer model site with a side eye hoping there is not some other monster that is going to engulf the Gulf Of Mexico. This last cone of death that was supposed to pummel Key West in Tropical hate from the Yucatan Peninsula has been discarded thankfully due to a cold front coming in from the Midwest. Maybe, just maybe that will be the last of it. Fingers crossed.. Now we have a very angry cold front (our first of the season) to come blow on us from the North West and drop our temps suddenly into the upper 60s. This will have both positive and negative affects.
The Key West fishing report is finally something to talk about as we start getting out more frequently now that the weather has gotten better. Deep sea fishing on board the INXS things have been pretty decent. Capt. Garrett is on vacation so Capt. Abi has been running as my mate. The current is close by the reef line so the palegics are in and some of the winter cast of characters are feeding on the reef. Sailfish, kingfish and tunas have been caught and we are hoping for a good wahoo bite tomorrow on the full moon. Don’t count out the mahi bite this time of the year, when they are biting in November they are usually pretty good size.
Inshore fishing has been pretty good all along. The trout bite is better along with some sizable Jacks in the backcountry fishing arena. We are really looking-forward to a good cold front to improve things here. The tarpon fishing has been pretty good too, Capt. Herbie was able to get into some juveniles on the regular as the water is still warm.
We do a lot of reef fishing here at Dream Catcher Charters. This week is no different. Capt. Rob has been getting out to catch some good yellowtail and mutton snappers mixed with fun fish such as yellow jacks. The water quality is perfect for all of it. As winter starts to take hold of our weather patterns here in Key West we will see this improve even more as the fish start to move in shallow to chase bait.
November is a grea time to visit Key West and go fishing. Yes, it is a roll of the dice on the winds especially if you want to get offshore but backcountry fishing is almost always fun. We do it all. Call us to set up a trip so we can go live the dream here in Key West.
